Abstract: In this paper, the electrorheological(ER) suspensions containing chitosan particles and silicone oil were prepared with glycerin as activator. The conductive properties of these suspensions and their influencing factors, such as field strength, particle concentration, activator content, temperature and shear rate were investigated as well. The results show that the suspension system′s conductive property is enhanced as the field strength, concentration, activator content or temperature increases; while with the increasing shear rate, the system′s conductive property decreases.
