Abstract: A couple of new chromoionphores 1 and 2 based on iminoanthraquinone derived crown ether were synthesized. Compound 1 showed remarkable color changes in the presence of Ba2+ and Ca2+, while 2 showed high sensitive and selective ‘naked-eye’ recognition toward Mg2+ over other tested ions.

Key words: Alkaline earth metal ion, Chromoionophore, Iminoanthraquinone, Selectivity
