Abstract: Capillary gas chromatographic method was employed for determining very long chain fatty acids in the plasma of patients with Adrenoleucodystrophy(ALD)and healthy controls.Very long chain fatty acids in the plasma were extracted and methylated with CH3OH-C6H6-CH3COCl.The very long chain fatty acids were separated on the SE-54 column. The ratio of C24:0to C22:0,C26:0 to C22:0 fatty acids was calculated.Abnormal ratios were observed in patient with ALD.The technique can be used for clinical diagnosis of ALD.

Key words: Very long chain fatty acids, Lipid, Plasma, Gas chromatography, Adrenoleucodystrophy
