Abstract: The influences of the pH value of solutions, initial concentrations of chromate, purged gas and photocatalysts loading on clean-up efficiency for Cr(Ⅵ) have been investigated. In order to study the influence of phase and size effect on the photocatalytic activities, anatase and rutile TiO2 nanocrystallites were prepared, whose particle size is 9.5 nm(BETsurface area 133.4 m2/g) for anatase phase and 7.5 nm(BET surface area 167.6 m2/g) for rutile phase, respectively. The results of the photocatalytic reactions indicate that the phtocatalytic activity of anatase crystallite is higher than that of rutile crystallite, however, both anatase and rutile nanosized TiO2 powders have higher photocatalytic activities than those of commercial TiO2 powder.
