Abstract: The chemiluminescence reaction of Fe(Ⅱ)-potassium permanganate with formaldehyde as an enhancer was investigated. Anew method for the determination of iron on the basis of the reaction has been developed. The detection limit is 4.4×10-10g/mL Fe, the relative standard deviation is 1.6%(6.0×10-8g/mL Fe, n =11), the linear range is 1.0×10-9-8.0×10-7g/mL Fe. This method has been applied to the determination of iron in nature water. The mechanism of this reaction was also investigated.
