Abstract: The solution state of Neutral Red(NR) with or without DNAwas investigated by UV-Vis spectrum. NRmolecules are dimerized in water. The NRabsorbance spectra of monomer and dimer are obtained by calculating and the calculated dimerization equilibrium constant Kis 8.4×104>/sup> L·mol-1 . NR and DNA strongly interact with each other. The apparent binding constant(Kap) and the binding numbers of NRand DNAfrom absorption spectra data are 5.79×104 L·mol-1 and 43, respectively. Both the influence of ionic strength on the interaction between N Rand DNA and NR on Tm of DNAare also studied.
