Abstract: The structure and fluorescence properties of high-pressure-reated EuI2 were studied. The structural change of EuI2 from monoclinic to orthorhombic and the increase of both structural symmetry and coordination number of Eu2+ were observed respectively. It was found that high-pressure treatment could split the energy levels of 4f65d and made the central energy levels lower so as to induce the red shift of emission spectra. Moreover,a new emission peak (449 nm) is assigned and a new phase(EuI2-Ⅴ) is reported.
