Abstract: The chiral complexes tris (phenanthroline) iron (Ⅱ) were synthesized. The structures of the complexes were determined by IR, UV, EXAFS, CD. The binding of the complexes to calf thymus DNAwas studied by spectral methods. Hypochromism and enhancement of luminescence accompany DNAbinding and the binding show the characteristic of intercalation. The enhancement of luminescence seen for △ isomer in the presence of DNAis greater than that for ∧ isomer. The luminescence quenchng produced by [Fe(CN)6]4- for △ isomer in the presence of DNAis smaller than that for Aisomer. It means that △isomer binds preferentially to B-DNA.
