Abstract: The palladium catalyst dispersed on poly N-vinyl pyrrolidone was prepared. The rate for the hydrogenation of olefins, nitrobenzene and methyl acrylate in different solvents over the catalyst was examined. The experimental results indicate that both the hydrogenation rate and the reaction order of different substrates are different dramatically from each other. The rate for the hydrogenation of methyl acrylate is greatly affected by the solvent. Kinetics for the hydrogenation of methyl acrylate in methanol was also studied.
