The Electrochemical Reduction of 3-Methyl-4-Amino-5-Nitroso-Uracil

Abstract: This paper reports an experimental study pn the electrochemical behavior of 3-methyl-4-amino-5-nitrosouracil (3-MU) at bright platinum electrode in sulfuric acid solution. The process involving a reduction was established by means of cyclic voltammetry and constant current step methods. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopic method was used for the detection of intermediates. The results showed that radicals were generated during the reduction process. Based on data analysis a mechanism of the electrochemical reduction of 3-MUis proposed at the region of low overpotentials.
