Abstract: Aseries of starch-polyacrylamide graft copolymers (ST-g-PAM) were prepared by Mn3+-initiated graft copolymerizations of acrylamide (AM) onto starch (ST) dissolved in water at 30℃. The effects of solution acidity and concentrations of monomer, starch and initiator on graft copolymer-ization were investigated. The copolymerization was much more susceptible to pHvalue of the reaction solution.Reaction mechanisms responsible for the initiation of graft copolymerization and homopolymeriza-tion of AMare proposed and discussed.
