Abstract: Electrochemical capacitors composed with high capacitive activated carbon and cobalt oxide xerogels electrodes were studied in 7 mol/L KOH aqueous solution. The electrochemical capacitance performance of the electrochemical capacitors was studied by means of cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and galvanostatic charge-discharge tests. The maximum charge/discharge voltage of the electrochemical capacitors was in the range of 1.4—1.6 V, and a maximum energy density of 15.4 W·h/kg and a maximum power density of 23.5 kW/kg were obtained on the basis of total weight of the two electrodes except current collector. High performance obtained indicates that the activated carbon/cobalt oxide xerogels electrochemical capacitor is an attractive system being worthy to make great efforts to investigate deeply further.
