Abstract: Aseries of oligosaccharide mixtures from extracts of Acanthopanax senticosus Harms(AS) were determined in both the positive ion mode and negative ion mode of electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. In the positive ion mode, the ions observed are characteristic of cluster ions with a mass difference of 16, and they are considered as the alkali adducts of [M+Na]+/[M+K]+or [M+H2O+Na]+/[M+H2O+K]+. In the negative ion mode, the ions observed are deprotonated oligosaccharides like [M-H]-or [M+H2O-H]-. MS" experiments of trisaccharides were performed in both the positive and negative ion modes to highlight the application of ESI-MSnto the structure analyses of oligosaccharides.
