Abstract: Microcalorimetric adsorption was used to determine quantitatively the number and strength of acid/base sites on the oxide samples of Eu2O3, CeO2, MgO, ZnO, Al2O3 and NiO. The initial heats of NH3 and CO2 adsorption were found to be proportional to Sanderson electronegativities of the samples.

Key words: Microcalorimetric adsorption, Solid acid and base catalyst, Metal oxide, Titration of surface acidity and basicity
