Abstract: Dark red single crystal of sodium vanadyl phosphate NaVPO5 has been synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis method and its structure has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray methods. It crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21 /c with a =06527(2) nm, b =0.8462(2) nm, c =0.7120(2) nm, β =1.1523(3)°, V =0.33570 nm3, Z =4. The strutrure was solved by Direct Method and refined by the least saqures with R =0057 and RW=0.062. The structure can be described as a “VPO5” framework which is build up from corner sharing VO6 octahedron parallel to the c axis. Each PO4 tetrahedron shares its corners with four VO6 octahedron, two of them belong to the same chain, and each VO6 octahedron share its corners with four PO4 tetrahedron and two VO6 octahedron.
