Abstract: The continuous grey model GM(1,N) has been derived from the grey theory and the principle of the least-square.The model has been successfully applied to predict the solute retention behaviour in high performance liquid-phase chromatography. The grey model GM (1,N) had been used not only to describe the relationships between the capacity factor of solute and mobile phase composition or solute's carbon number, but also firstly to investigate the relationships between the retention time of solute and column temperature or carbon number of n-alkanes, n-alkylbenzenes and p-bydroxybenzoates.Simultaneously, we established the corresponding mathematical model. The predicted results are satisfactory.
