Abstract: This paper reports the preparation of Cr2O3 ultrafine particles, the surfaces of which were modified by sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(DBS) and stearic acid(ST).The Cr2O3 ultrafine particles are characterized by IR, TEM, XPS, electron diffraction and UV-vis absorption spectometry. The results are explained by using quantum size effect.

Key words: Ultrafine particles, Quantum size effect, Surface modification
