EPR Study on Correlation Between aN Values of Trifluoromethyl t-Butyl Nitroxide and Solvent Parameters ET and Z(kosower)

Abstract: Trifluoromethyl t-Butyl nitroxide generated in the electron transfer reaction between(CF3CO2)2 and t-BuNHOCOPh was subjected to EPRstudy in16 solvents with different polarities.The result shows the linear relationships as aN=(2.17×10-2 ET +11.34)×10-4 T(r=0.975)and aN=(1.20×10-2 Z+11.46)×10-4 T(r=0.976).By making use of such a fluori-nated un-bulky nitroxide as the model molecule,much information of theoretical importance about the solvation as well as the electronic structure of the nitroxide have been disclosed.
