Abstract: Two novel free-base chloro-substituted triphenylcorroles 5,10,15-tri-(4-chlorophenyl)corrole [(ClPh)3CorH3] and 5,10,15-tri(2,4-dichlorophenyl)corrole [(Cl2Ph)3CorH3] were synthesized and characte-rized by UV-Vis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy. The electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of the corroles were examined in dichloromethane and N,N'-dimethylformamide containing 0.1 mol/L TBAP. The effect of solvents and substituents on UV-Vis spectra and redox potentials as well as the electron transfer process of the corroles were discussed. Based on the results of electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry and electron spin resonance(ESR) measurements overall reduction/oxidation mechanisms of the corroles were proposed.
