Abstract: A violet red solid was obtained by heating the mixture of (NH4)2MoS4,AgCl and (n-Bu)4NBr in the solid state.The solid was extracted with CH2Cl2 to obtain a violet red cubic crystal [(M-Bu)4N]3[Mo4S4Cl4].The crystal belongs to the cubic system with space group F43C,a=b=c=2.4212(4) nm,Z=8.The anion core of the title compound can be viewed as a cube skeleton which is composed of four Mo atoms and four Satoms.The distance of Mo-Mo is 0.3154(8) nm.
