Abstract: Results are presented of the effects of tetraethylammonium ion on the surface activities and micelle formation of anionic surfactants and their mixtures. Tetraethylammonium ion behaves as an inorganic ion when its concentration is low, but is obviously participates in the adsorption and micellization when its concentration gets higher. It seems that a hydrocarbon chain was introduced onto the hydrophobic chain of surfactants. As a result, the surfactants act higher surface acitivties and the mutual phobicity between the fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants is reduced.
