Abstract: A novel solid acid SO42-/Al2O3-Al catalyst for catalytic distillation was prepared by impregnation of anodized aluminium plates formed by anodic oxidation of high-purity aluminium foils with aqueous H2SO4, and characterized by SEM, BET, XRD and NH 3-TPD. XRD patterns of the samples show that the support anodized Al2O3 layer is amorphous oxide supporting. NH 3-TPD results show that the catalyst has intermediate acid sites. The catalyst was active for the esterification of acetic acid with ethanol, and can be reused directly for 5 times, which means the catalyst has a good stability.
