Synthesis, Characterization and Substitution Effect on Mesogenic Properties of Ferrocene-containing Liquid Crystal Without Soft End Group

Abstract: Seventeen ferrocene-containing compounds with four phenyl rings and ester, imine group as the central bridge were synthesized. The structures were characterized by IR, NMR and elemental analysis. The mesogenic properties were studied by DSC and polarized optical microscopy. The effect of substituents on the mesogenic behavior was discussed. The results show that most of these compounds have a liquid crystal phase.
