Abstract: Anew tungsten sulfide(designated as WS-L) with intercalated cetyltrimethylammonium surfactant cations was prepared under a mild hydrothermal condition, and the product was characterized by IR, ICP, SEM, TEM, XPSand TGA. Sodium tungstate and thioacetamide were used as the tungsten and sulfur sources respectively, whereas the template was cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. XRDand TEMresults reveal that the compound has a lamellar mesostructure with an interlayer distance of 2.925 nm. The empirical composition of the individual inorganic layer is [WS3.5]2-and the negative charges on the layer are balanced by the surfactant cations intercalated between two adjacent layers.
