Abstract: In this paper, we described the synthesis of the main bioactive components of queen bee pheromones, queen substance 9-oxo-2E-decenoic acid (1) and stink-odour inhibitor 9-hydroxy-2E-decenoic acid (2) from natural oleic acid. The key intermediate 9-heptadecene-2-one (5) was obtained by PdCl2(PPh3)2catalytic decarboxylation of oleic acid and followed by Wacker oxidation. The synthesis of the trace components, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylethanol (3), is also reported.

Key words: Queen bee pheromones, Oleic acid, 9-Oxo-2E-decenoic acid, 9-Heptadecene-2-one, 4-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylethanol
