Abstract: By using N-bromosuccinimide(NBS) and pyridine as the oxidation reagents for dehydrogenating aryl substituted semicarbazide to form azo compounds is described for the first time. Eight azo compounds have been prepared in excellent yields under mild condition. This method only needs simple instrument and short reaction time. The structures of these azo compounds were identified by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and MS spectra.
