Abstract: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC),polyethylene oxide(PEO) and their 50/50 blend were studied at 120℃ by inverse gas chromatography(IGC).The retention behavior was characterized for 36 probes. The IGC-derived PVC-PEOinteraction parameter X23,which ranged from-01 to 0.6,showed an apparent dependence on the nature of the probe.Specific retention volumes Vg23 of the blend were found to be equal to the weight-average Vg values of the two polymers for most probes. It is suggested that there existed phase separation in the blend. For phase separation system an approximate equation X23=(X12-X13)2/2 was given in this paper. This equation was verified by IGCresults of poly(vinyl chloride)-poly(ethylene oxide) blends. The probe dependence of X23 was well explained with this equation.
