Studies on the Readions of Iron Carbonyl-Mercaptan(Thiophenol)-Grignard Reagent System with Benzoyl Chlorides─Syntheses and Structures of Some Substituted μ- Benzoyl Fe/S Complexes

Abstract: The in situ reactions of the active complex salts [(μ-CO)(μ- RS)Fe2( CO)6]-·Mg+Br, formed from triiron dodecacarbonyl, mercaptan or thiophenol and Grignard reagent EtMgBr, with o-or m-chlorobenzoyl chloride in THFat room temperature gave six new substituted μ-benzoyl Fe/Scomplexes with general formulas of(μ-RS) (μ-o-ClC6 H4 CO) Fe2( CO)6 and( μ- RS)(μ-m-ClC6 H4 CO) Fe2(CO)6(R=n-Bu, t-Bu, Ph), which were fully characterized by C/Hanalysis, IRand 1H NMRspectroscopy.
