Abstract: At 140℃, the mixture of hexaethyl phosphorous triamide and benzaldehyde could react with chloroform, chloroform-d (CDCl3) and bromoform respectively.By means of 1RNMR, elementary analysis and isotope analysis, their products were determined as diethylamine hydrohalide respectively.Apossible mechanism is proposed.

Key words: Hexaethyl phosphorous triamide, Benzaldehyde, Haloform
