Synthesis and Phase Behavior of Side Chain Liquid Crystalline Polymer with Substituted Biphenyl Group

Abstract: Liquid crystalline polymer with substituted biphenyl group in the side chain has been prepared by radical polymerization.The structures of monomer and polymer were confirmed by analyses of FTIRand 1H NMR.Its phase transformation was investigated by polarized optical microscope and DSC.The results showed that the monomer and polymer could form a LCphase in certain temperature range, the LCphase of monomer was confirmed to be smectic phase by WAXS, and that of polymer was nematic phase.
