Abstract: In this paper, fourteen new solid complexes of rare earth with 1,6-bis-(1'-phenyl-3'-methyl-5'-pyrazolone-4')-1,6-hexanedione (BPMPHD, H2L) and a,a-dipyridyl(DPy, D) have been synthesized and characterized. The stoi-chiometry of the complexes was confirmed by elemental analysis, R2L3D2·nH2O (R=La,Y; n= 10;R=Sm, ...,Lu; n=4), R2L3D·4H2O(R=Pr, Nd). Determinations and discussions have been made for the 1R, UV-visible spectra, fluorescence spectra and DTA-TGspectra of these complexes. The decomposition temperature of the coordination compounds has the "tetra effect" and "double peaks". The hypersensitive transition of Nd, Ho, Er complexes and the fluorescence of the Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Tm and La, Lu, Y, Gd complexes have been attributed. The flourescence quantum yield of Tb complex was measured also.
