Abstract: The organic pigment was successfully coated with colloidal silica particles by using layer-by-layer assembly technique. It was found that the nano-silica content adsorbed onto organic pigments could be modulated by the numbers of both polyelectrolyte layers and silica layers.TEM, TGA analysis and XPS data illustrated that the nano-silica could not cover the organic pigment surface completely, however, the coverage ratio of nano-silica on the organic pigment increased with increasing the layers. The nano-silica particles coated onto the surfaces of organic particles could obviously improve the wettability of the organic pigment,as well as weatherability through scattering of UV ray.
