Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Bridged Porphyrin Dimers

Abstract: Reaction of 4,4′-dicarboxy-2,2′-bipyridine, 2,6-dibromomethyl pyridine, 2,6-dihydro-xymethyl pyridine and 1,8-diaminonaphthalene with 5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-triphenyl porphyrin, 5-(4-chloroformacylphenyl)-10,15,20-triphenyl porphyrin and 5-[4-(4′-bromobutoxy)phenyl]-10,15,20-triphenyl porphyrin gave three types bridged diporphyrins 2a-2e, respectively. These intermediates and novel compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, MS, UV-Vis and elemental analysis.
