Abstract: As a continued part of our research endeavor in the synthesis of Co3O4 with different morphologies by hydrothermal treatment followed by decomposition, the effects of hydrothermal synthetic conditions, such asthe starting concentration of Co(NO3)2 solution, pH of the suspension, hydrothermal temperature, holding time and the stocking mode, on the Co3O4 cubes were reported in this paper. The results of XRD, TEM and IR were used to monitor the procedures of hydrothermal treatment. The cube size increased with the increasing of the acidity of solution, but decreased at a higher temperature. Prolonging the treating time helped the growth of the Co3O4 cubes. Moreover, the phase transformation and mechanism of Co3O4 spinel formation during the hydrothermal synthetic process were also discussed.
