Abstract

Abstract: This paper described a new synthetic method of a novel poly(phenylene) deriva-tive— poly(N, N-dimethylaniline) (PDMA) by forming a CTcomplex with monomer N,N-dimethylaniline and tetrachloro-p-quinone (TCQ).The CTcomplex was further studiedwhich could not only protect the side group (N,N-dimethyl), but also afford relatively lowenergy of activation in polymerization.The resulted polymer PDMAwas characterized by el-ementary analysis, FTIR, ¹H NMRand UV-Vis spectra.The relationship between the spec-tra and its structure was also discussed.
