Synthesis of Three-Ring-System Liquid Crystal Containing Ethylene Linking Group and Study of Their Phase Transition

Abstract: Two series of three ring system liquid crystal materials containing ethylene linking group between a cyclohexyl and a phenylene ring were synthesized using the starting material──trans-4-alkyl cyclohexyl carboxylic acid. The details of the preparation steps were described.The influences of alkyl chain length on the phase transition temperatures were studied.The relationship between the physical properties and structures of two series of liquid crystal materials was discussed.
