Abstract: The UV-Vis spectra of eighteen [5, 10, 15, 20]-Substituted tetrakisphenyl porphyrin manganese chlorated complexes have been measured and their main bands were assigned. The concentration and solvent effects have also been studied which indicate that the Pπ(Cl)→π* bands undergo a gradual red shift as the concentration of the solution increases and a blue shift as the polarity of the solvent increases.Based on the dipole-dipole interaction with polar solvent, these effects can be understood by realizing that in Pπ(Cl)-π* transitions the ground state is more polar than the excited state. In addition, the linear relation between the λmax values of p-substituted phenyl porphyrints and Hammett constant has been observed.
