Abstract: We synthesized and characterized a ligand, N,N,N',N'-tetrakis (2'-benzimidazolyl methyl)-1,4-diethylene amino glycol ether (EGTB) and its binuclear complexes containing cop-per(Ⅱ), iron(Ⅲ) and manganese(Ⅱ).An assay of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was performed by means of pyrogallol autoxidation. It was found that all model compounds possess excellent SODactivity and they show more than 50% inhibition ratio in the concentration range of 10-6~10-7 mol/L of the complexes.

Key words: Superoxide dismutase, Model compound, Assay of activity
