Abstract: The chitosan-based nanosilver solutions were synthesized by chemical reduction method with chitosan as the stabilizing agent and sodium borohyride as the reducing agent. The obtained chitosan-stablized nanosilver solutions were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscope. The antibacterial activities of these chitosan-stablized nanosilver solutions toward E. coil and S. aureus were investigated. This research found that with increasing chitosan concentration, the obtained silver nanoparticles became much more stable. And cotton fabrics treated with these chitosan-stablized nanosilver solutions exhibited superior antibacterial activity and antibacterial durability compared with the fabrics treated by chitosan solution only.
