Effect of Surfactants on Stability and Rheological Properties of Highly Concentrated Aqueous Titanium Dioxide Suspensions

Abstract: The effects of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and ethoxylated octylphenol(TX100) on the adsorption, stability and rheological properties of aqueous TiO2 suspensions have been studied. It was found that the adsorption isotherm of SDS on TiO2 surface was shown to be the type of "S". With the increasing of SDSconcentration, the ζ potential and stability increase, while the viscosity and yield value decrease at first and then increase. The adsorption amount of nonionic surfactant TX100 is much smaller than that of SDS. No obvious effect was shown on the stability and rheological properties of the TiO2 suspensions.
