Abstract: A new method for the determination of trace iridium in fossil of dinosaurian eggs with catalytic laser thermal lensing spectrometry is presented in this paper. The method is based on the kinetic reaction in which trace iridium catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in basic condition and on the determination of the magneson Ⅱfading speed. The detection limit is 5.2×10-12 g/mLfor iridium. The linear range of the calibration curve is 0.2~35 ng/mLof iridium and correlation coeffcient is 0.9974.The method has been applied to the determination of the trace iridium in fossil of dinosaurian eggs in Nanyang region,China.

Key words: Fossil of dinosaurian eggs, Thermal lensing spectrometry, Catalytic reaction, Detemination of trace iridium
