Abstract: Luminescent complexes Zn(bpb)(1) and Zn 2(bpb)2(bpy)(2)(bpb=1,2-bis(2-pyridinecarboxamido)benzne, bpy=4,4'-bipyridine) were synthesized and complex 2 was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for Complex 2: monoclinic, space group P1, a=0.962 51(6) nm, b=1.501 22(9) nm, c=1.642 52(12) nm, α=106.958(2)°, β=105.362(3)°, γ=102.978(2)°, V=2.068 5(2)nm3, Z=2, Dc=1.563 g/cm3, F(000)=1000, R1=0.036 7, wR2=0.089 8. Complex 2 was formed by two molecules of complex 1, which were linked by a bpy ligand through coordination bonds. In the solid of complex 2, there were face-to-face intermolecular π-π stacking interactions resulting in the formation of one-dimensional molecular chains, which oriented along crystallographic b and c axis, respectively. The photo and electro-luminescent properties of complex 1 were characterized. Complex 1 was employed as an emitting material to fabricate electroluminescent device with a high efficiency.
