Abstract: This paper investigates extinction mechanisms about polarized optical microscopy(POM),which are classified into isotropic extinction,pseudo-isotropic extinction, general anisotropic extinction and depth-induced light extinction(DILE).Emphasis is made on the analysis of DILEand of the compensation mechanism especially. With this method, the bulk spherulite of poly(ethylene oxide) is studied and the anisotropic factor is measured.
