Abstract: The optimum experimental conditions, characteristic masses, the linear ranges of analytical calibration curves, matrix interferences for some elements and samples analysis were investigated by cathodic sputtering in a glow discharge-atomic absorption spectrometry with transient mode of atomization using copper block and graphite block as cathode materials, and the analytical results of two types of cathode materials were compared in this paper. No matter which cathode materials were selected, the test results showed that the analytical technique had advantages of no memory, high sensitivity, wide linear range etc.

Key words: Glow discharge, Cathode sputtering, Cathod material
