Abstract: In this paper, the volatile oil of fresh flowers of Elaeagnus angustifolia Lwas extracted bymeans of the device of simultaneous steam distillation-solvent extraction made in our laboratory. The yield of the oil is 0.1 % of fresh flowers (W/W).By using capillary gas chromatography-mass spec-trometry, 85 constituents were separated, of which 47 compounds constituting 96.51 % of the oil were identified. The major ingredient is trans-ethyl cinnamate, contents of which reach to 78.88 %.The fact that the major constituent was trans-ethyl cinnamate was also supported by the infrared and NMRdata.

Key words: Fresh flowers of Elaeagnus angustifolia L, Capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Simultaneous steam distillation-solvent extracting device, Trans-ethyl cinnamate
