Abstract: Adual wavelength spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of niobium and tantalum is presented. This method is based on measuring the absorbance of colored products of niobium and tantalum with 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo) -5-(djethylamino)phenol at two wavelengths. The reference wavelength is at the absorbance peak of the reagent. This method can be used to calibrate the deviations of absorbance from the Beer's law and is probably better than the traditional dual-wavelength spectrophotometries. Several synthetic samples were determined and the results are satisfactory by comparison with the standard addition values.
