Abstract: In this paper,α,β,γ,δ-tclra-(4-methylphenyl) porphinc(TTP) has been prepared by the reaction of 4-tolualdehyde with pyrrole.The complex formation reaction of TTPwith coppcr(Ⅱ) in the presence of anionic surfactant,sodium dodecyl benzene sulf'onate has been studied.The water-insoluble TTPwas found to be a highly sensitive and highly selective reagent for direct spcctropliolomclric determination of ultramicro amount of copper.The Soret band of coppcr(Ⅱ)-TTPcomplex lies at 414nm,which was well separated from that of diacid form of TTP (444).The composition of the complex is coppcr(Ⅱ) TTP=1:1.Apparent molar absorption coefficient is 4.5×10⁵.The interference of 23 ions and 6 salts was examined and found to be mininal.This simple and rapid method has been used for the analysis of copper in water sample,ores and Al alloy with satisfactory results.
