Abstract: Eleven chelating agents were studied for their ability to mobilize the cadmium bound to bovine serum albumin (BSA).Thc parameter F,which is defined as the ratio between the percentages of Cd bound to BSAin the presence and absence of chelating agents, can be used as the criterion for the estimation of the mobilizing ability of chelating agents. The Fvalues determined experimentally lead to a mobilizing ability sequence DTPA>EDTA>EGTA>NTA>TRIEN>PEN>CYS>HIS>SAThe polyaminopolycarboxylate type chelators mobilize Cd effectively.Alinear relationship is found between lgFand lgKCJL (conditional stability constant of the cadmium chelates) for all the chelators except the mcrcapto-compounds.The anomalous behavior of the mercaplo-chelate agents is discussed.
