Abstract: The reverse atom transfer polymerization of MMA catalyzed by FeBr3/Me-6TREN was studied in this paper. The molecular weight increased with the increase of the conversion and was in a good agreement with the theoretical value. The molecular weight distribution of the resulted PMMA was very narrow(1.06). These results indicate that the polymerization was well-controlled. The effect of morlar ratio of catalyst to initiator and FeBr3 to ligand Me-6TREN on the control of the polymerization were studied. In addition, the activation energy of polymerization of MMA was calculated to be 29.35 kJ/mol, which was a bit smaller than that of Cl-mediated reverse ATRP.

Key words: Atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP), FeBr3, Tris(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)amine(Me-6TREN)
