Studies on the Preparation and Luminescence Spectra of Lanthanide-galactitol Complexes

Abstract

Abstract: The crystal structure of 2TbCl₃·C₆H₁₄O₆·14H₂Owas determined. The result shows that the hydroxyl groups of alditol and water molecules coordinate to Tb³⁺ ion together while the hydroxyl groups of alditol, water molecules and chloride ions form an extensive hydrogen bond network. The FTIRresults indicate that galactitol coordinates to Eu³⁺ and Tb³⁺ using the same coordination mode. The luminescence spectra of Eu and Tb galactitol complexes were also recorded and showed the characteristic emission spectra of the lanthanide ions.
